Remains of Ugandan killed in Rwanda are expected over the weekend

Kabale Resident District Commissioner Darius Nadinda has revealed that the remains of the Ugandan who was shot dead in Rwanda is set to be handed to Ugandan officials over the weekend.

A 25-year-old Ugandan national was shot dead in Rwanda on allegations of smuggling waragi and cosmetics.

The deceased has been identified as Justus Kabagambe alias Kadogo, a resident of Rutare village, Rugaga parish, Butanda sub-county, Kabale district.  

Ivan Bahika, Rugaga parish Lc2 chairman told our reporter that Kabagambe was shot on Wednesday night at around 10:00 PM at Kitovu village, Bukwasuri parish, Kivuye sub-county, Burera District, Northern Province in Rwanda.

According to Bahika,the incident occurred at about half a kilometer away from the Uganda-Rwanda border. He says that Kabagambe was intercepted by Rwanda security officers while carrying sachets of waragi and Movit cosmetics and immediately shot him to death. He says that after shooting him, his body was taken to Butaro hospital mortuary in Burera town.

Nadinda told African Pearl News -APN that Ndorwa west Member of Parliament Hon David Bahati is working together with Foreign Minister Jeje Odongo to ensure that the body is handed to relatives for a decent burial.

He added that two ministers are finalizing paperwork and all procedures to bring the body.

Nadinda has asked the family, relatives and residents of Butanda to remain calm and wait for the body for burial.

Nadinda warns locals against continuous illegal crossing to Rwanda until issues of the two counties are resolved.

Kabagambe is the 9th person (both Ugandan and Rwandan nationals) to be killed by Rwandan authorities on accusations of smuggling in Rwanda. Rwanda closed its borders with Uganda on February 27, 2019.
