11 arrested in Kabale for violating COVID-19 guidelines

Police in Kabale district last night arrested eleven people found violating
Presidential and Ministry of Health guidelines aimed at fighting the spread
of Covid-19.

According to the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, the
suspects were arrested during a joint operation conducted between 10:00 and
11:00hrsin drinking joints in Mwanjari and Rwakaraba in Southern and
Northern divisions respectively, Kabale Municipality.

Maate identified the suspects as, John Mpagi, Denis Tumusime, Reuben
Mushabe, Julius Nuwagaba, Ishmael Atwongyeire, Viany Biresingomwe, Lilian
Ampeire, Henry Muhwezi, Jackson Bashaija, Isaac Ampeire, and Cosma Saturday.

He said that the operation targeted bars that have been operating
illegally, in disregard Covid-19 preventive guidelines. Maate added that
the suspects will be charged with disobedience of lawful orders vide SD
76/15/10/2021.

Maate warned that such operations will continue to ensure that all those
people, who will be found violating Covid-19 Standard Operating
procedures-SOPs are apprehended.

Kabale district is still rated among districts, with the highest number of
Covid-19 cases in Uganda. According to statistics from the office of the
District health officer, 7 new Covid-19 cases, and one related death
were registered yesterday.

The number of active cases in the district
stands at 120, including 35 under hospitalization and 85 under Home-based Care. The number of cumulative cases since May this year is at 2,238
while deaths are at 95.
