Relative calm as DRC fighting subsidizes

Relative calm has returned to Eastern DRC as fighting between DRC forces and rebels subsidizes.

The fighting that started over the weekend and extended to Monday morning saw thousands of people fleeing their homes and entering Uganda through Kisoro district.

The fighting is said to have been triggered by clashes between government forces and rebels believed to be of Allied Democratic Forces or M23.

There was panic in Kisoro district and business came to a standstill as thousands of people entered Uganda fleeing for their lives.

Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate told African Pearl News –APN apearlnews.com that the situation is normal and security on the Ugandan side is in charge of the situation.

 On the Congolese side, the government forces claim that they have regained control of the territory that had been overrun by the rebels.

The rebels had managed to over run for military bases and killing dozens of government soldiers.
