Four public servants in Kigezi sub-region have been nominated to receive the National Integrity champion award, for using their offices with integrity to deliver quality services to Ugandans.

They are; the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate, Dr. Marion Namutebi, a physician at Kabale Regional referral hospital in Kabale district, the Kanungu Resident District Commissioner Hajji Shafique Ssekandi, and the Procurement officer Kisoro district Magret Nyiratunga.

This was reached following a vigorous integrity exercise conducted by Kick Corruption out of Uganda (KICK-U) in partnership with Action Aid International Uganda.

The KICK-U Executive Director Robert Kakuru Byamugisha said that the names were reached following several consultations to different people in the community in the Kigezi Sub-region, who gave out a total of 32 people and the regional vetting committee came up with four people after thorough scrutiny.  They were selected based on how they receive and attend to clients in the respective offices in line with good service delivery and how they cooperate with other workers at work.

He added that this is aimed at recognizing and appreciating Ugandans who have exhibited high levels of integrity as they use their official positions to deliver quality services to the people. Byamugisha said that the awardees ceremony will take place on Friday 17th December 2021 at Sheraton hotel Kampala, where all Anti-corruption Agencies will be gathered.

Maate attributed the selection of his name to God, and the community members and promised to double the effort in service delivery which is a requirement to every public servant.
