Police in Kanungu district have arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly murdering his 27-year-old girlfriend.
The suspect has been identified as Nickolas Ampereza and the deceased is Peace Namara all residents of Kanyambeho cell, Kanyambeho parish in Kyakinoni sub-county.
According to the Kanyambeho cell chairperson Baker Turyatunga, Ampereza today at around 5:00 pm allegedly developed a misunderstanding with his girlfriend Namara whom he has been co-habiting. Turyatunga said that the incident started when Ampereza learned that his girlfriend was having an affair with another man who was planning to marry her on Monday.
The Kiegzi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed the incident saying that Ampereza used a sharp panga to cut off the head of the deceased which killed her instantly.
Maate said that the body of the deceased has been taken to Kihihi health center IV for postmortem and the suspect is being detained at Kihihi police post as investigations are underway.
