Kabale District Executive Committee-DEC on Tuesday approved a request for a supplementary budget totaling shillings, 2,057,955,133, for the departments of Education, Health, Statutory bodies, and Natural Resources.
The request was approved during a DEC meeting that was held today, in the District Boardroom.
The request that was tabled by the District Planner, Boaz Kakuru, included, Shs 500,045,336 from Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers Program (UGIFT) Counterpart funding, to cater for UPE and Tertiary capitation funds at Rukore and Kizinga Technical schools, construction of a 5 stance VIP latrine at Muyebe Primary school, procurement of twin Desks for primary schools with bigger enrollment, Primary health care to Government and Private not for Profit facilities, top-up for the renovation of Kahungye Health center II and Environment protection, monitoring, and screening.
According to Kakuru, Shs 993,589,797, will be used for retention, investment, and servicing costs at Buhara seed secondary school and upgrade of Kahondo and Kitoma Health center II to IIIs and purchase of medical equipment for these health centers. The balance of Shs, 500,000,000 and Shs 64,320,000, is to cater for the reconstruction of Maziba primary school and payment of allowances for LCIII councilors respectively.
The Kabale district Chief Administrative officer, Edmond Ntimba, guided that the implementation of most of these projects needs to be urgently undertaken, like the reconstruction of Maziba Primary school and the commissioning of Buhara seed schools. He applauded the technical arm of the district for always cooperating with the district technical arm for the smooth implementation of several government projects and programs.
The Kabale District LC5 Chairperson, Nelson Nshangabasheija, also commended the work being done by technical officers, and resounded his call for teamwork, for better service delivery in the district.
He thanked the government for the 500 million shillings recently disbursed to the district, for the reconstruction of Maziba Primary school, which he said had become an issue of concern not only to the district leadership but also the general community in the district.
