Over 100 farmers in Kamwezi Rukiga District have received high-breed onion seeds from the Rukiga district woman member of parliament Caroline KamusimeMuhwezi,

A total of 57 kgs of Early Red Max seeds worth 17 million were yesterday distributed to farmers from Kyogo Parish, Kyabuhangwa Parish, and Kamwezi Sub-county Headquarters.

Speaking to our reporter, the beneficiaries thanked Caroline Kamusiime for fulfilling the pledge she had earlier promised and for timing the right season of planting.

Mutekanga Josephat and Tugumisirize Evas from Kyabuhangwa and Kyogo parishes said that they had no hope of planting the new high bread onions because they were too expensive for her to buy.

“Only rich people have been planting the Red Max and the poor are planting ordinary seed, which is of poor quality.” They said

They also thanked Hon Kamusime Caroline for bringing the seeds, which they had never planted before, to the Kamwezi common farmer.

The chairperson of the local council in Kamwezi sub-county, Mr. Teddyson Niwagaba, showed concern for farmers who sell the donations given to them before reaching their final destinations.

He further vowed to make follow-ups on these beneficiaries and applauded Caroline for the donation rendered to farmers in his sub-county.

Speaking to our reporter on a phone call, the Rukiga District Woman MP, Hon Kamusiime Caroline Muhwezi, said that she always fulfills the pledges she makes and that during her campaigns she pledged the seeds to the farmers in the sub-county.

She added that most people were unable to buy the high-quality early red Max seedlings and that a farmer who was going to plant these seeds was going to benefit more than one who was going to cultivate 3 acres of ordinary seed.

The legislator appealed to the beneficiaries not to sell the seeds but rather plant them for their own benefit and that of the entire sub-county.

Caroline said that she has already set up a team of farmers who will be following up with the beneficiaries and that she will personally be visiting them.
