Police in Kabale is hunting for a woman suspect alleged to have stolen a one-year-old baby boy.

The victim is one Joshua Ahumuza, son of Alfonse Tumuhimbise and Anet Rukundo, residents of Kikungiri cell, Mwanjari ward, Southern division, Kabale district.

Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate says that it’s alleged that on January 30, 2022, at around 12:00 hrs in their home at the above address, an unidentified woman went home and found the thirteen-year-old housemaid with the two children, the victim and a seven-year-old one, while the parents had gone to their usual work.

Maate further reveals that the suspect deceived the maid who was the children’s aunt and that she had talked to Rukundo, their mother, who said she was coming back from work at around 16:00 hrs.

She deceivingly told both children that she was going to the store to buy them something.

He says that when she was about 200 meters away, she told the old child to go back home and ask the maid what she wanted for herself, and as the child went back, she disappeared with the baby.

The maid communicated to the parents, who responded and started searching but in vain, hence reported to Kabale Central police station.

The suspect is said to have been dressed in a red dress, had a face mask, and had plate hair covered with a piece of cloth.

Maate calls on the locals with knowledge of the suspect and her whereabouts to notify police so that she can be brought to book.
