Rukiga district gets two boreholes

By Libino Byamukama

Caroline Kamusiime Muhwezi, Member of Parliament for the Rukiga District, commissioned 2 boreholes in the Rukiga District worth 32 million.

The two boreholes have been constructed by an NGO, Nile Humanitarian Agency, from Turkey, and they have been constructed in the villages of Nyarahunga and Kahunyira, all in Rwamucucu Sub County.

Speaking to our reporter, the beneficiaries narrated that there had been water scarcity in the area and they had been using stagnant water from swamps, which was also putting them at risk of acquiring diseases.

Hope Tugume, Kabarebereho Simon, and Ahimbisibwe peace from Kahunyira and Nyaruhanga cells said that they have been fetching stagnant water from the swamps, which has been contaminating their food and the entire utensils.

They said that they have been sharing the same water source with animals, and sometimes they would be chased away by venomous snakes.

They added that the deepwater ponds in the swamp have been putting them at risk of getting diseases and drowning.

The Chairperson of Lc3 Rwamucucu sub-county, Eddy Mugisha, said that the contaminated water has been putting them at risk of getting infections.

He thanked Hon. Kamusiime Caroline for the high efforts rendered to the water scarcity villages.

Mugisha called upon the public to own the boreholes and take personal responsibility, a move that will pave the way for more boreholes in the area.

Joshua Mutabarura, the Personal Assistant of Hon. Kamusiime Caroline, who represented her, attributed the presence of boreholes in the area to cooperation between leaders and the legislature.

He thanked the woman MP who wrote to the Nile Humanitarian Agency requesting boreholes in the area, appreciated the quality of work done by the NGO, and pledged to cooperate with them.

The Resident District Commissioner, Mrs. Purikeria Muhindo Mwine, together with the public relations officer from Nile Humanitarian Development Agency, Mr. Kaloozi Kasim, thanked the NRM government for allowing them to operate in the country.

The RDC urged the public to maintain the boreholes since they are potential beneficiaries.
