Police in Kanungu district is investigating circumstances under which three people, all relatives, were murdered.
Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate says that the deceased people are Dilliano Twijukye, 40 years old, a resident of Kenyange cell, Nyarurambi parish in Nyamirama sub-county, who was killed by a mob. The second victim is Lewonia Kabasharira, a 61-year-old resident of the same address, and Jovinai Kabagambe, aged 3 years old and a resident of the same address.
It’s alleged that on February 26, 2022, at around 1700hrs, Twijukye Diliano (deceased) developed a mental disorder and picked up a panga, and hacked his mother and his three-year-old daughter to death.
Maate says that upon getting information, angry residents also mobilized and beat the suspect to death, making a total of three people killed on the spot. He further revealed that police intervened and the three bodies were recovered and are pending postmortem.
