Authorities in Kabale District today handed over to Vidas Engineering

Services Limited a site for the construction of two classroom blocks at

Maziba Mixed Primary School in Maziba Sub County, which was devastated

by a hailstorm in 2020.

On May 2, 2020, the school was hit by a heavy downpour characterized by

a hailstorm, which destroyed the school’s main building, which accommodated primary

three to seven classes, a library, a

staffroom, a store, and the head teacher’s office. When the

government eased the lockdown and allowed the

reopening of schools, Maziba Primary School began operating in makeshift structures.

However, in November 2020, the government allocated 500 million shillings

to the school, after lobbying by the Ndorwa East Member Mp,

Wilfred Niwagaba, and the District Woman Member of Parliament,

Catherine Atwakiire Ndamira, who all sit on the Parliamentary budget committee. Speaking

at the handover of the site, the Kabale District

Engineer, Januario Turinawe Bagamuhunda, said that the scope of work includes two

classroom blocks, 80 three-seater desks, four teachers’

tables, two teachers’ chairs, four in-built shelves, and five stance

latrine for boys, among others.

The Ndorwa Eat Mp, Wilfred Niwagaba, who is also the shadow Attoney

General, asked the district authorities to always put priority projects

in the budget, so as to give the MPs from the district a basis

to lobby the central government for funds. He asked the residents to

cooperate with the contractor and to supply them with food and building materials.

The Kabale District Chief Administrative Officer, Edmond Ntimba, commended

the legislators for lobbying and asked the contractor not to deviate

from the quantities listed in the bills of quantities. He said that as the district,

they are ready to release the funds on time so that the project

is finished in its three-month duration.

The Kabale District Vice Chairperson, Miria Akankwasa Tugume, who represented

the District LCV Chairperson, Nelson Nshangabasheija,

asked the contractor to do a good job, saying

that shoddy work would not be accepted.
