Police in Rukungiri have arrested three suspects for the alleged murder of a 78-year-old man identified as James.
The suspects are Isaac Ainebyona, Boaz Kayoga, and Amos Baryamujura, all residents of the Bugangari sub-county. Baryamujurayrs village is a village.
The deceased is said to have been heard arguing with one Isaac Ainebyoona, a casual laborer suspected of stealing coffee from the deceased’s son, Nicholas Muramila, on the morning of May 6, 2022, at around 0830hrs.
When Isaac admitted to having stolen it, the deceased instructed Ahereza Julius, a fellow laborer, to lock his room as he also (deceased) confiscated Isaac’s mobile cell phone, preventing him from escaping until Rwabahima Florence (wife of the deceased) arrived to settle the matter.
The actions and instructions of the deceased angered Isaac, and he refused to do any work that would be assigned to him as usual. Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate says that at around 0900hrs of the same day, Ahereza left for the garden, leaving the deceased with Isaac at home. When he returned from the garden, he could not see anyone around him.
He began preparing lunch and in the course of the day, Isaac arrived, telling him how the deceased had left for an unknown destination for the night. After lunch, Isaac instructed Ahereza to go and graze the animals while he remained to prepare supper.
While Ahereza was still at the farm, he received a phone call from a neighbor, Kamondi, informing him that his boss (James) had been discovered dead in the bedroom.
This was then reported to police by one Naome Musimenta, daughter of the deceased. Maate says that the police have arrested the three suspects to help them in investigating the matter.
