Education minister roots for responsible parenting

The Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni has decried the increasing cases of moral decay among the younger generation, which she partly blames on irresponsible and poor parenting.

Minister Janet Museveni urged parents and guardians to wake up and fulfill their responsibility of nurturing and grooming their children regardless of the heavy schedules they claim to be executed for the family to survive.

The Minister and, at the same time, the First lady made the remarks yesterday while officiating the belated International Women’s Day celebration for Ntungamo district held at Kyamate SS playground in Ntungamo Municipality.

The first lady appealed to girls to avoid promiscuity and fornication until they are ready to get married, saying that virginity should be highly recognized as it was in the past.

She asked the leaders to revive the ABC strategy as the only way to safeguard girls against sexual relations before marriage and teenage pregnancy.

The Minister commended the Ntungamo district Woman Member of Parliament, Hon Joselyn Bata Kamateneti, and the chairperson of the District Women’s Council, Peace Musiime, for organizing the colorful function to appreciate the role of women in the communities.

The Ntungamo district woman MP, Hon Bata Kamateneti, challenged the government to modernize and equip health facilities at all levels in order to reduce health burdens on mothers, especially the maternal and child mortality rate in the country.

Hon Kamateneti also charged women with respecting and always listening to their husbands, saying that they should be the family’s hearts and husbands’ heads.

She also urged for more emphasis on education in some of the schools that were washed away by hailstorms such as Kemironko primary school and hard-to-reach areas.

The Member of Parliament for Ntungamo Municipality Hon Yonah Musinguzi advised couples always to agree whenever they want to sell land. He directed all the Chairmen not to put signatures on the land agreement without concent from women in the Municipality.

The Ntungamo district chairperson Samuel Mucunguzi Rwakigoba assured the public of the continued war against corruption in the district to ensure effective service delivery.
