The Rubanda district local government on Monday gave out a total of 1,232 pre-painted iron sheets, 154 kilograms of nails, and 200 ridges to 10 government-aided primary schools within the district, as a way of improving infrastructure.

The schools that benefitted are Nangaro and Shebeya primary schools in Hamurwa Sub County; Rwakagurusi, Kabaya, Mengo, Rukore, and Illemera, all in Muko Sub County; Nyaruhanga primary school in Rubanda town council; Ikumba primary school in Hamurwa town council; and Kaato Primary school in Bufundi Sub County.

The Rubanda district LC5 Chairperson, Steven Ampeire Kasyaba, stated at the district headquarters that the materials were purchased for 100 million shillings as part of additional funding lobbied by the district leadership from the government through the Ministry of Finance. He added that they intend to also purchase desks and construct latrines in different schools as they improve their infrastructure.

The Rubanda District Principal Assistant Secretary Elly Mucunguzi asked stakeholders of the schools to also work together in the establishment of structures since the central government changed the policy of constructing structures in schools under the school facility grant (SFG).

On behalf of the beneficiaries, the parish priest of Kaato Church of Uganda parish, Rev Issah Tumusiime, who is the caretaker of Kaato primary school, commended the district for the support and asked the district leadership to continue supporting schools because some of them are in a poor state.
