Kabale municipality has received a brand new garbage truck and three garbage containers from the Ministry of Local Government under the Markets and Agricultural Trade Improvement Programme Project 2 (MATIP), in order to help in collecting garbage within the town.

The Kabale Municipality Mayor, Emmanuel Sentaro Byamugisha, told our reporter today (Friday) in his office that when the construction of the modern market started, each city and municipality where the market is being constructed was requested to apply for any item that could help to keep the market clean.

He said that the truck, Nisan type, registration number UBL 210V, was received from Kampala on Tuesday this week. Other beneficiary municipalities are Entebbe, Lugazi, Busia, Tororo, Moroto, Kitgum, and Kasese, while the cities include Soroti, Moroto, Arua, and Masaka.

Byamugisha said that the garbage is meant to contribute to solid waste management, which was going to be a challenge at the newly constructed market, and the new trucks will promote a cleaner municipality and contribute to the protection of the environment. He added that they are introducing a new system of reducing garbage skips in the town so that the trucks can now reach out from house to house almost on a daily basis.

Byamugisha said that the new truck will support the one that they have been using since Mitsubishi registration number LG003-121 to ensure that they reduce the burden of garbage in the town.
