Mbarara regional referral hospital has refuted claims of bribery by an up-and-coming artist.

Shine Nyonyozi Angella, aka Shine Omukiga, claims she was denied her father’s death certificate after refusing to comply with hospital staff demands for money.

Christopher Kubiryaba died at the facility way back on the 27th of January 2022, and the artist reportedly approached the facility on the 27th of May 2022 demanding a certificate of death.

The management of the facility instead asked her to present authorization from the family so that she could pick up the notification of death to enable her to follow up with NIRA for the production of the death certificate and refused to return.

Shine Nyonyozi recently took to social media, accusing the facility of refusing to issue her with notification of death and demanding money. She does not reveal how much was demanded of her.

Halson Kagure, the Mbarara regional referral hospital’s public relations officer, says that the upcoming artist’s allegations are baseless and that she has refused to cooperate with the facility by availing the required authorization but decided to resort to social media.

Kagure says that the hospital remains available to assist the family members in any way to enable them to obtain a death certificate.
