Police investigate the death of two people in Kabale

Kabale police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths of two people in Butanda sub-county, Kabale district.

The dead are Fabius Mpongano, 70, and Libon Aryankwasa, both residents of Butanda sub-county, Kabale district.

According to Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maateon, on Friday at around 18 hours at Katoojo primary school in Butanda sub-county, Libon Aryankwasa, while drunk, he met Mpongano Fobius. He assaulted her, seriously kicking her, causing her intestines to get out, which annoyed the residents who ganged him, causing her to die.

He adds that when he started assaulting her, his wife ran to inform the brother of the victim, Edison Kabangye, about the assault of his sister by Libon.

Kabangye and the wife of Libon ran back to the scene. They found Mpongano Fabius lying down unconscious as the body of Libon Aryankwasa was lying on its side, alleged to have been killed by an angry mob.

Maate further said that Kabangye Edson went and reported the matter to Butanda police.

A police officer from Kabale police station picked up the victim, Mpongana Fabius, and the dead body of Libon, and took them to Kabale regional referral hospital, where the said Mpongano Fabius died on June 18, 2022, at around 0200hrs.

Maate revealed that both bodies are at the Kabale regional referral hospital mortuary for postmortem.
