Rev.Fr. Gaetano wants political parties banned from institutions of learning

Rev Fr. Gaetano Batanyenda has revealed that political parties should be banned in schools following the death of a UCU student during the Makarere polls.

Gaetano who is the parish priest of Kitanga catholic parish in Kabale Diocese come barely days after a student was killed during violence at Makerere University.

Last week on Thursday the Uganda Christian University (UCU) student was allegedly stabbed to death at Makerere University during guild campaigns.

Bewatte Betungura, 25, who was a law student at the UCU-Kampala campus, was buried amidst tears of hundreds of mourners who thronged Malere Village, Biguri Sub-county in Kamwenge District on Saturday.

Betungura had gone to Makerere University to see his Old Boy (OB) from Mbarara High School who was one of the many contestants for guild presidency at Uganda’s oldest public university where deadly political violence erupted.

Now, Rev Fr Gaetano Batanyenda who is also the parish priest for Kitanga, speaking to our reporter condemned the state in which the UCU student died while in another university.

Batanyenda stated that if there could be no political parties in higher institutions of learning that students wouldn’t have died in such political violence in universities. He added that universities are copying from Ugandan politics where Ugandans experienced difficult times during the last elections.

It’s therefore upon the Government of Uganda to ban political parties in universities to rescue the lives of innocent people.

Out spoken Priest Further revealed that last elections Uganda experienced the worst elections. Most Ugandans were killed and others were remanded to prison thus shouldn’t be a habit to universities and institutions.

Batanyenda stressed that universities shouldn’t involve external forces from different universities where innocent lives end up losing life.
