Rugunda hails Bishop Kivengere for championing education

The Emeritus prime minister of Uganda Dr. Ndugu Ruhakana Rugunda has revealed that Bishop Festo Kivengere was a big chunk evangelization in Uganda and abroad.

Rugunda made the revelation  on Saturday  while addressing a congregation during Bishop Kivengere memorial student’s leaders Symposium at National Teachers college Kabale.   

Bishop Festo Kivengere mission week started on 24th July and  ended on    Sunday with the service at Diocese of Kigezi cathedral.

Kivengere week has been incorporated with a couple of activities that include; radio programs, extending ministry in schools, One on One ministry, street Evangelism or mobile rallies, film ministry, deanery missions, Overnights, discipleship day, crusade and youth and students leaders symposium.

Rugunda described the Bishop Kivengere as a person who was against dictatorship and religious sectarianism during the leadership of Idi Amin. He added that his evangelism touched many lives of people from Kigezi Uganda and Africa.

He added that Bishop Kivengere was the most famous preacher’s days of our times, and was  known as a preacher, firm commitment to human rights.

Dr Rugunda revealed that Bishop Kivengere rescued him during his studies when he failed to raise tuition while at University of California studying masters.  

Ruganda advised students to ensure availability, effectiveness and credibility as Bishop Kivengere did such that in future they are recognized as solid people.

Charity Kivengere, Bishop Kivengere’s daughter, is excited to see that their father is remembered for his good work he did during his time of leadership.

She noted that his father was a person who loved people, who loved revival, loved God and believed in unity in different denominations.

The Kigezi Diocesan Bishop Gaddie Akanjuna, said that Bishop Kivengere is remembered because he committed and was ambitious while he was still alive.

He appealed to the youth to always endeavor to work, serve diligently and uphold to keep the name of Bishop Kivengere Festo.

Bishop Festo Kivengere was born in 1919 and died in 1988 and was a Ugandan Anglican-Christian leader referred to by many as the Billy Graham of Africa. Kivengere served as the 2nd Kigezi diocesan Bishop from 1972 to 1988, having replaced the late Bishop Dick Lyth, who was Bishop from 1967 to 1972.
