Construction of 2.9B Bukinda seed school kicks off

Authorities in Rukiga district yesterday handed over the construction of Bukinda Seed Secondary school in Bukinda Sub County, to the contractor Geses Uganda Limited, which will cost a total of 2.935 billion shillings.

According to the District Engineer, James Kiganda, the project which will be constructed on the land that was offered by the Diocese of Kigezi in Buzooba cell, Kandago parish, will undertake 6 classrooms, an administration block, six staff houses, an IT Laboratory, Science Laboratory, multipurpose hall, constructing kitchens for staff, pit latrines, a library, water harvesting tanks, and a football pitch and among others.

Speaking at the handover function today, the Rukiga district Chief Administrative Officer John Asiimwe asked the contractor to follow Bills of Quantities and asked the stakeholders to do the respective roles while implementing the project. The Rukiga district LC5 Chairperson Robert Mbabazi commended the church for offering the land but also asked the government to always deploy civil servants from their respective places of residence. The Diocese of Kigezi was represented by the Diocesan Secretary Rev Amos Tweteise.

The project contractor Eng Peter Nkurunungi who has been undertaking the construction of other Seed schools said that in this new project, the government increased the funding from 2.16 billion to 2.935 billion to cater for the installation of electricity in all structures as well as putting the public address in the multipurpose hall and installation of the internet in the IT laboratory. He pledged to follow the guidelines in line with the bills of quantities and called for cooperation among the stakeholders.

The Rukiga Deputy Resident District Commissioner Zaddock Kamusiime who officiated as the chief guest of honor warned the public against stealing the construction materials saying that Kandago is a known theft hotspot in the district.
