The department of sexual and children-related offenses under the Directorate Of Criminal Investigations at Kibuli CID headquarters yesterday opened a two days training course on the prevention of Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) and Sexual, Reproductive Health Rights (SHR) among police officers and their immediate families.
The deputy director CID, CP Venis Tumuhimbise presided over the opening of the training and represented Director CID Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Tom Magambo.
CP Tumuhimbise urged the police officers to take care of themselves by fundamentally avoiding risky behavior like the abuse of alcohol and drugs.
“I would like to remind you that Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights are everyone’s entitlement. They are inalienable, indivisible, interdependent, and universal. In other words, they cannot be taken away from an individual.” Tumuhimbise echoed.
He further advised officers to maintain strong minds, learn and grasp the knowledge passed onto them and use the information effectively in their day-to-day lives and during the execution of duties.
“I hope we all leave this place as changed agents, and work closely to address sexual gender Based Violence and Sexual Reproductive Health Rights. Furthermore, use this as a medium to contribute to national peace and security.” He concluded.
According to the Justice Law and Order Sector representative Ms. Lucy Ladira, officers are at the forefront of law enforcement in society which necessitates sensitization.
“These kinds of offenses are sensitized and we need to look at the body language, behavior, and the way victims talk for a proper manifestation of gender-based violence in the communities ” she stressed.
Ms Ladira called upon guardians and parents to do their parenting role as a way of preventing and reduction of such offenses.
The training was funded by United Nations Population Fund(UNFPA)
