154m maternity ward commissioned at Muko health center IV.

Rubanda district local government has commissioned a fully equipped maternity ward at Muko health center IV that has been constructed in partnership with EGPAF south west worth Ugx 154m.

At a function that was held on Monday 28th September 2022 at Muko health center IV grounds, the in charge of the health unit Mr. Godfrey Bampabwire thanked EGPAF south west and the district leadership for the great support towards improving health services in the district.

Dr. Godfrey added that the health center serves a population of about 120,000 people, whereby the staffing level is at 84% with 2 medical doctors.

Dr. Godfrey also said that among other equipments that have been received include mattresses, beds, infant warmers, delivery set at a total cost of 42.7m.

Dr. Godfrey also said that the health unit also offers services like inpatient care, maternal health services, family planning, and antenatal care among others.

The district health officer, Dr. Abdon Birungi said when he came to Rubanda in 2018; deliveries were between 15_18 mothers per month because the Muko health center IV had only 06 beds. Hamurwa health center IV had the same challenges however the maternity ward was extended with support from Hon. Henry Musasizi and bank of Uganda.

The chief administrative officer Mr.Kwizera Alex said that the project started in FY 2021/2022 with support from Rhites south west.

CAO also said that the next project is to elevate Muko health center IV to a district hospital at a total cost of 6.2bn Ugx so as to improve service delivery.

The secretary for health Hon. Obed Mutatiina representing  the district chairperson Mr. Kasyaba Stephen, thanked the DHO for leading a hard-working team.

He said that Rubanda still has a challenge whereby women deliver from home. He however called upon the general community to always come for services because they are free of charge.

He also said that Rubanda has received 346m from government due to good performance in assessment; however the money will be used for constructing the main drug store at the district headquarters.

Mutatina said that among other health centers that have been improved include Kashasha health 2, Nyamabare health center 2, Nyaruhanga hc 2, Ruhiija health center 3, Bwindi heath center 3. He added on to say that there is a plan of elevating bufundi health center III to health center IV.

The commissioner of parliament Hon. Prossy Begumisa Mbabazi thanked the country director EGPAF South West for offering conducive working environment to most health centers in the country.

Begumisa said that she’s aware about silting of roads in this rainy season however requested the communities to be patient until the rain reduces because it’s difficult to start on works with a tractor in this season.

The Resident district commissioner, Mrs. Lillian Ruteraho who was also the guest of honor also thanked the uncharted of Muko health center IV for the great work done, Political leadership, and technical leadership.

The RDC handed over the complete maternity ward to CAO who is the custodian of government property.
