The local council chairperson of Ntaraga village in Nyaruhanga parish of Ikumba Sub County has come under fire from the locals over alleged domestic violence.

Naris Ahimbisibwe is accused of being irresponsible and failing to be exemplary by always condoning domestic violence and participating in escalating the vice.

It is alleged that he has on several occasions battered his wife  Stella Ainembabazi. The most recent incident was on the 25th of September 2020 when he used a hammer to attack his wife leaving her seriously and reportedly pouring the food that had been prepared for the family’s meal.

In a village meeting held on Friday, at Ikumba sub-county headquarters, the locals expressed concern that the daily fights orchestrated by the local leader who should instead be in charge of ensuring that there is harmony in the village have become the order of the day and cannot be tolerated anymore.

One of the locals identified as Ernest Atuheire revealed that the chairperson’s wife is currently receiving treatment at  Rubanda Health Center II.

He adds that the Ainembabazi has on several occasions been forced to sleep in the bush due to fear of being attacked by the husband.

Some of the locals in the area attributed the fights to alcoholism by the husband saying that he is a prominent drunkard in the area.

The husband has also reportedly been unable to carter for his family since he spends all the money earned on buying alcohol.

Ainembabazi told our reporter that the husband has become wild and said that she had decided to go to her parent’s home until the situation stabilizes.

The speaker of Ikumba Sub-county Emmanuel Arinaitwe Kabira said that it was unfortunate that the chairperson can reach the point of using a hammer to hit the wife as well as biting off her ear.

The embattled chairperson declined to comment on the matter.
