Musasizi challenges schools to increase emphasis on science subjects.

The state minister for finance in charge of general duties Hon Henry Musasizi has challenged institutions of higher learning to prioritize teaching of sciences to meet the country’s needs.

Musasizi made the remarks on Saturday while addressing the students during the Rubanda annual Uganda National Students Association meeting and elections held at St Johns Ikumba Rubanda district.

Musasizi also advised schools to produce professionals in agriculture, industries and ICT sectors where Uganda’s biggest challenges of housing, food, transport, communication and service provision still lie.

“Secondary schools should emphasize soft skills and entrepreneurship to make the schools pass transformative knowledge that can create the next great businesses and businessmen around the world. Strengthen the systems to ensure they meet the high society expectations,” he said.

He reiterated that only Science can revitalize the pace of development in Uganda.

He urged schools to emphasize the relevance of patriotism in their syllabus and encouraged schools in the district to form clubs geared toward changing mindsets and attitudes towards work.

Musasizi contributed Ugx 5m to the Rubanda student’s association.

Steven Ampeire Kasyaba, the Lc 5 chairperson noted that he believes in student’s leadership because it shapes the young children to become great people in future.

According to John Bosco Namara, the Uganda National Students Association Coordinator Each School was represented by 8 delegates who were eligible to vote. Out of 24 secondary schools, 13 turned up for the meeting.

Gumisiriza Anthony a student of St Charles Lwanga was elected as the Chairperson Rubanda District Students association, Ritah Ayebare student of St Agatha Girls Kakore vice chairperson, Oshaba Ohurira from St Andrews elected as Female Affairs under the Uganda National Students Association.

The Uganda National Students Association is an umbrella organization for all students in secondary schools, post-secondary, Institutions of Higher learning and Universities in Uganda, that was established as a platform to represent students’ views and opinions within institutions of learning.
