Rubanda district LC.5 Chairman Ampeire Stephen Kasyaba has announced a relief of 200 iron sheets for Kashaasha Primary School whose one of the building tops was recently blown off by rainstorm.

The rains that battered Rubanda District between August and Mid-October this year, climaxed with storms that swept off the top of a 100 seater class room block at Kashaasha Primary School, on 16th October 2022.

On his visitation to assess the situation at the school located in Kashaasha Town Council, Mr. Kasyaba announced that the District, through the education office, would send 200 pre-painted iron sheets to Kashaasha Primary School.

Kasyaba explained that the relief package was in addition to the 1,232 pre-painted iron sheets, 154 kilograms of nails and 200 ridges they have already distributed to other government aided Primary Schools within the district, this year, as a way of improving infrastructure at the schools.

The schools that earlier benefitted include Nangaro and Shebeya Primary Schools in Hamurwa Sub County, Rwakagurusi, Kabaya, Mengo, Rukore, Illemera all in Muko Sub County, Nyaruhanga Primary School in Rubanda town council, Ikumba Primary School in Hamurwa town council and Kaato Primary School in Bufundi Sub County.

Kasyaba, said that the materials were procured at a tune of Ugx 100 million, part of additional funding which the district leadership lobbied from government through ministry of Finance.

He added that the District intends to construct a five stance pit latrine at Kashaasha Primary School this year, and allocate UGX 50 million to the same school for classroom re-innovations in the next financial year.

The Rubanda District Education Officer Francis Serununu asked the school administration to mobilize parents so that they can raise funds for repairing the rest of the damaged top of the building before the District sends iron sheets, which the school management consented to.

The Kashaasha Primary School Headteacher Francis Asiimwe thanked the District leadership for the intervention. He said they were challenged by lack of enough teaching space since the classroom top was blown off by rain storms.

Meanwhile, Kashaasha Primary School has a total enrollment of 501 pupils with only 7 teachers, and the District leadership said they had noted that with concern, promising to lobby for more teachers in the subsequent financial years.
