Famdec Construction Company has released a letter threatening to take Kabale local government to court due to an unpaid debt of UGX 105,424,353 for the construction of the Ryakarimira town council administration block and multi-purpose council hall.

Speaking to the journalists at the district headquarters, the Kabale district Resident District Commissioner, Godfrey Nyakahuma, confirmed that as the district, they gave a construction contract for the Ryakarimira town council administration block and multi-purpose council hall to the FAMDEC construction company on October 6, 2021.

He stressed that the money for the construction of the town council administration block and multi-purpose council hall was released in the FY 2020/21 budget and was deposited with the town council.

He added that the money for the construction was deposited into the town council account, but all the money was misused by the former Ryakarimira town clerk, Mr. Ampaire Alex, who is currently on the run.

The resident district commissioner stressed that on September 30, 2022, they held a meeting with Mr. Ampaire Alex, together with other district officials, and made with him an agreement to return that money, worth UGX 105,424,353, within two weeks from the date of the meeting.

He stated that, to his surprise, the man has gone on the run from that time until now without clearing the government money intended to help its people.

The RDC has called upon everyone in the community to help the police in searching for Ampire Alex so that he is caught and pays back that money, which will enable them to settle the contractor’s debt before taking the local government to court.

He has said that once the local government is taken to court, they will pay more money, which will lead to poor planning in the district for this financial year, and it will be a shame for the district.
