Authorities in Rubanda district have launched the construction of four dormitories for students at St. John’s Secondary School in Ikumba in Hamurwa Town Council and St. Andrew’s Secondary School in Rubanda Town Council, a project costing about 600 million shillings.

The construction of two dormitories, one for boys and the other for girls, at St. John’s Secondary School in Ikumba will be undertaken by Geses Uganda Limited, owned by Eng. Peter Nkurunungi, while the same project at St. Andrew’s Secondary School was awarded to Bornar Company Ltd., owned by Mr. Francis Bonanza.

During the function to handover the construction site to the contractors yesterday at St. John’s Ikumba and at St. Andrew’s S.S. Rubanda, the Rubanda District LC.5 Chairperson, Steven Ampeire Kasyaba, said that the funds are part of the UgX 9 billion shillings in additional funding to the district budget that was lobbied with help from the State Minister of Finance (general duties), Henry Musasizi, who doubles as Rubanda District NRM Chairperson.

Speaking at the same function, the Rubanda Resident District Commissioner, Lilian Ruteraho, asked the contractors to execute the works with integrity, in line with the Bills of Quantities, if they were to maintain a good working relationship with the Government of Uganda and Rubanda authorities.

The St. John’s S.S. Ikumba Chairman Board of Governors, Dr. Augustine Kasyaba, thanked the NRM and Rubanda District Local Government for considering the school among those to benefit largely from this financial year, adding that the projects were long overdue.
