Rwamucucu and Mparo leaders in Rukiga district yesterday endorsed Counsel Patrick Kiconco Katabazi as the member of parliament for Rukiga district 2026.
This was during Amendi Bende Christmas Cup finals held at Mparo play ground in Mparo town council Rukiga district. The match was between Kiyogoore and Katungu cells.
Amedi BaleBende the LC V councilor for Mparo town council councilor, speaking after the function revealed that 14 teams participated in the tournament and two teams managed to reach on finals.
He said that the intention of organizing the cup was to make the youth busy in the days of festivities as well promoting the talents of young people in Rukiga.
Speaking as the guest of honor, the Public policy specialist, Counsel Kiconco Patrick Katabazi commended Bende for organizing such a tournament aimed at bring the people together in the area. He said football helps the young generation to spend time practicing and enjoying which motivates them to stay away from bad acts in the communities.
Katabazi he said these youths who would spend time in betting, gambling, boozing, among other bad acts have gathered here to show their talents. He said that the football helps to generate income like players of Home boys team, Uganda cranes, vipers’ fc among others.
He said that good players will be picked and lifted to big teams in this region so that others can put much efforts in sports and earn better.
Katabazi promised to promote sports in Rukiga district, Katabazi Rukiga district Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) 4th division football competitions
However, leaders of Rwamucucu sub county and Mparo town council who had gathered at the function led by Mparo Town council mayor, Kawaida Jimmy and Amedi Bale Bende carrying posters endorsed Kiconco Patrick Katabazi as their Member of parliament for Rukiga district.
They said that for the little time Katabazi has shown interests of cons testing as the MP a lot has been done towards the development of Rukiga thus pledging support in the 2025/2026 elections.
Katungu cell defeated Kayogoore by 2 goals to 1 in penalties after a draw of 0:0 in full time.
