Construction of Rutooma Health Centre kicks off

Authorities in Kabale Municipality yesterday launched the construction of Rutooma Health Centre III in the Northern Division to the contractor Geses Uganda Limited, to the tune of 920 million shillings.

Rutooma health center is being upgraded from health center II to the health center III, which will be built in Butare cell, Rutooma parish, Kabale Municipality’s northern division.

The upgrade of Rutooma Health Center II to Health Center III is under the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfer Programme II (UGFIT).

During the project handover, Kabale Municipality Engineer Eng. Dr. Adolf Kahuma stated that it will include the construction of a maternity ward (STANDARD), 1 VIP 4 Stance, a placenta pit, a medical waste pit, a staff house, and out patient department renovation, among other things.

He asked the contractor to follow the bills of quantities and asked the stakeholders to fulfill their respective roles while implementing the project.

The mayor of Kabale municipality, Emmanuel Byamugisha Sentaro, and Town Clerk Justin Barekye commended the president, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for ensuring that every sub-county has a health center III.

They noted that the upgrade of Rutooma Health Center II to Rutooma Health Center III is under the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfer Programme II (UGFIT). They asked the contractor to ensure quality work and follow specifications and technical guidance.

They are the contractor and must make sure that local people are employed on the project so that they benefit.

Peter Nkurunungi, the project contractor, promised to deliver what was requested while also ensuring quality work in a timely manner.

He noted that the project will take 8 months to be completed. He pledged to follow the guidelines in line with the bills of quantities and called for cooperation among the stakeholders.

Godfrey Nyakahuma, the Kabale resident district commissioner, commended the contractor, Geses Uganda Limited., for the quality work on the projects he has been doing.

However, Nyakahuma emphasized that while the government has done its part, employees have consistently failed to perform their duties as expected.

He asked workers to ensure that they perform their services well so that people get effective services. He warned the public against stealing construction materials.
