Police in Rukungiri are investigating the circumstances under which property worth millions of shillings was destroyed by a fire outbreak at Kampala Trading Center, Kacence Parish, Nyakishenyi Sub County, Rukungiri District.
Kigezi regional police Spokesperson Elly Maate says that it was on January 13, 2023, at around 13:30 hrs. when information was received from a well-wisher by the officer in charge of Nyakishenyi police station, assistant inspector of police Tumugabirwe Pascal, that there was a fire outbreak at Kampala trading center.
Maate says that police rushed to the scene to ascertain what could have happened and found out that fire had destroyed about 30 lockups, which were made of timber, and all the items therein, but no injury was registered.
He adds that inquiries have been initiated to investigate the possible source and cause of the fire.
