Rukingiri police investigate unlawful wounding.

The territorial police of Rukungiri are investigating the circumstances surrounding the unlawful wounding by shooting of a 29-year-old man, Rogers Tumwesigye, a mason and resident of Kanyabihara village, Masya parish, and Nyakagyeme sub-county, Rukungiri district.

Kigezi regional police Spokesperson Elly Maate said that it is  alleged that on January 14, 2023, at around 00:30 hrs  at the Nyakibale SACCO Kasoroza Branch at the Kasoroza Trading Center in Nyakagyeme Sub County, an unknown group of people, numbering about eight, attempted to attack the SACCO by throwing stones at the night guards, namely Alex Kyarimpa and Kule Benson of Security 2000 Ltd.

Alex Kyarimpa, who was armed with a rifle, corked, prompting the group to run away.

He adds that it is  further alleged that, later, another group of 04 came, and Kyarimpa acted as before, making them also take off.

Moments later, a single person armed with a hammer and carrying a bag on his back approached the SACCO office by advancing towards the armed guard, Kyarimpa, who responded by cautioning the attacker to stop, and when he continued advancing towards him, he shot him, disabling his left leg.

Police at Nyakagyeme responded to the scene, rushed the victim to Rwamahwa Health Center 4 for medication, recovered the gun, and are holding the guard for questioning.

The victim claims he was going to work at a nearby construction site.
