Kigezi leaders have hailed the former governor of the Bank, Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile, for being a patriot, a unifier, and a promoter of culture in the region.

Hon. David Bahati, Minister of State for Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives in Charge of Industry praised Mutebile for initiating and sponsoring the historic visit to Kigezi by the King of Toro, Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru, in 2019.

Hon. Bahati was in Nakasero on Monday, January 23, 2023, speaking at the first memorial service to celebrate the legacy of Mutebile at All Saints Cathedral.

Bahati said the visit of the monarch helped to cement ties and create acceptability for the thousands of Bakiga that continue to migrate to Tooro for settlement.

Prime Minister Emeritus Rt Hon Amama Mbabazi praised the late Mutebile for being at the helm of numerous interventions that lifted Uganda’s economy out of the commodity scarcity, inflation, and instabilities of the 1970s.

The deputy governor of the Bank of Uganda, Dr. Michael Ating-Ego, praised Mutebile for having been a Rotarian with a generous heart.
