Green Environment Promotion (GEP), a charity organization that operates in Rubanda district, yesterday embarked on distributing the donation of 450 wheel chairs to PWD in the six districts of Kigezi region.

While launching the distribution at  Rubanda district, the founder and president of Green Environment Promotion, Evelyne Ninsiima Kikafunda, said that in 2018, when she was visiting the homes of PWDs in the six districts of Kigezi where PWDs are, she realized that access to assistive technologies such as wheelchairs, white canes, and tricycles, among others, remains a big challenge for the rehabilitation of persons with disabilities. She added that this made her start up an initiative to mobilize resources from her friends abroad so that she can buy these wheel chairs to enable community members with physical disabilities in the six districts of Kabale, Rubanda, Rukiga, Rukungiri, Kanungu, and Kisoro to move freely without burdening anyone for assistance.

She further noted that with this donation, she is hopeful that most rehabilitative health care services and other government services will be accessible to these beneficiaries.

Some of the beneficiaries, who included Rovina Atuheire of Rushekye A cell, Kregyere parish, Muko sub-county, Charles Kayongo of Munparo Cell, Nyarurambi ward, and Margaret Kyorimpa of Kagunga Cell, Nyarurambi ward, all from Muko Town Council in Rubanda district, welcomed the dionation, adding that the wheelchairs will help them go to church and attend other important public meetings in the district without burdening anyone for assistance.
