Police in Rubanda are hunting for a suspect identified as Richard Nahurira alias Rutima, a bodaboda rider, who allegedly murdered his biological brother Kamugisha Brian, aged 20 years, over land conflicts. Both are residents of Kitumbezi village, Bubaare Ward, Bubaare town council, in Rubanda district.

It’s alleged that the deceased and the suspect have been conflicting over a piece of land, where the dead wanted to rent it for money but wanted to cultivate it.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region police spokesperson, told journalists that today, May 15, 2023, at around 9:00 a.m. at Nyakiharo Cell Bubare Town Council, their mother, identified as Kyarimpa Gloria, aged 40, a resident of Central Division Kabale municipality, called them to meet on the land with the aim of returning the rent money and giving the land to the suspect for cultivation.

ASP Maate said that their mother has three sons and another daughter from another man. They all met on the piece of land, but as soon as they met, a quarrel ensued between the boys.

It was at that time that the suspect picked up a hoe and hit the deceased on his forehead, and he collapsed and died instantly.

Police were alerted by their young brother, identified as Emmanuel Tukamushaba, aged 15, who visited the scene and documented it. The body of the deceased was taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem.

Maate confirmed that their mother, Kyarimpa Gloria, has been arrested to assist with investigations, while the prime suspect is on the run.
