A hit-and-run accident in Rubanda district last evening left two dead and another critically injured.
The accident occurred at Mukitengye cell, Bubaare subcounty, along  the Kabale-Kisoro highway in Rubanda district.

The accident involved a motorcycle with registration number UDU 440T (Bajaji Boxer) and a yet-to-be-identified motor vehicle.

The deceased include Prosper Tayebwe (34) a resident of Kanyabitara cell, Hamurwa town council, Rubanda district.
and Julius Muhumuza (18), a resident of Gwamugura cell, Kakore parish,in Hamurwa subcounty, Rubanda district.A female survivor, who is yet to be identified, was rushed to Kabale regional referal hospital by good samaritans.

Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate says that it’s alleged by the first respondent that while on her way to Kabale at Mukitengye cell along Kabale Kisoro road, she found three people lying on the road and a rwekage of a motorcycle at the same place.

On checking them, she identified one as Prosper, who was already dead; the other two were still alive but seriously injured.

Therefore, one was taken to Kakore HC11, where he died. However, the woman was taken to Kabale Hospital by another good Samaritan.

Maate says that the three seem to have been on the above-mentioned motorcycle and hit by a motor vehicle that was heading to Kabale but was not seen or identified.

He adds that both bodies and the motorcycle were whisked away by their relatives, but efforts to have a postmortem done and the motorcycle recovered are underway.
