Rwampara District, September 27, 2023 – The peaceful town of Mwizi Kabura in Rwampara District is now in a state of mourning following the shocking murder of Tuhirwe Moses, a 48-year-old resident of Kikonkoma II cell, Kikonkoma ward. The alleged main perpetrator, 18-year-old Mucunguzi Joash, also residing in the same area, has been taken into custody, along with five others, according to Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi regional police spokesperson.
The horrifying incident unfolded late on the night of September 25, 2023, in the heart of Kikonkoma trading center when a heated dispute escalated into a physical altercation between Tuhirwe Moses and the primary suspect, Mucunguzi Joash. Eyewitnesses reported that tensions had reached a boiling point, leading to a brawl. It was the timely intervention of Good Samaritan Benda Christopher that temporarily defused the confrontation, managing to separate the brawling parties.
However, rather than quelling the situation, Christopher’s intervention seemed to further inflame Joash’s anger. Witnesses allege that after the initial altercation, Joash and his associates relentlessly pursued Tuhirwe Moses, who sought refuge in his home. Failing to locate him there, the group decided to retrace their steps back to the trading center.
In a shocking twist of events, Joash and his companions encountered Tuhirwe Moses on his way back home. What followed was a brutal and relentless assault that resulted in the tragic death of the 48-year-old victim. Heartbreakingly, the assailants left Tuhirwe’s lifeless body in a nearby banana plantation, where it was found in a pool of his own blood.
The discovery of Tuhirwe Moses’ lifeless body sent shockwaves through the closely-knit community. On the morning of September 26, 2023, at approximately 7:15 AM, an alarmed resident reported the gruesome scene to the Mwizi Police Station. Law enforcement promptly responded to the distress call.
Kasasira disclosed that a postmortem examination was conducted at the crime scene, shedding initial light on the extent of the injuries inflicted upon the victim. However, the motive behind this heinous crime remains deeply shrouded in mystery.
Local authorities have initiated a comprehensive investigation into the incident, with the hope of uncovering the motive and bringing justice to the bereaved family of Tuhirwe Moses.
