Geses Uganda Limited, the Company contracted to install street lights in Kabale Municipality has committed to replacing all the vandalized equipment before the project is commissioned.

This follows alarming reports that over 25 street lights equipment installed under the USMID Program have been stolen by yet to be identified People.

During yesterday’s ceremony to handover the completed Rutooma HC.III that has been under construction for 8 months, The Geses Uganda Ltd director Eng. Peter Nkurunungi narrated his frustration that vandalism of street lights in Kabale Municipality had gone overboard and unchecked.

“We are therefore committing to replacing the equipment since the project is not yet commissioned, but someone must do something about this problem,” Nkurunungi said.

The thieves are dismantling and stealing solar panels, batteries and the lights along Kabale Kisoro road, Rugarama road, Jackson road in Makanga, among others.

“Maybe we also need to have a sensitization drive aimed at teaching our people that these street lights are theirs. They are stealing from themselves…” the contractor said.

Nkurunungi was addressing a group of Authorities including Kabale District RDC, Kabale Municipality Mayor, LC.3 Chairpersons, DISO, among others.
