The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) has taken a significant step towards advancing professional accountancy in the Kigezi region with the launch of the CPA Kigezi Network.

Bringing together registered Certified Public Accountants from Kabale, Rukiga, Rubanda, Kisoro, Rukungiri, and Kanungu Districts, the CPA Kigezi Network is a pivotal forum. Its members span a spectrum of roles including District Principal Auditors, District Chief Financial Officers, Institutional Accountants, and Academicians.

The inauguration of the network, spearheaded by ICPAU representative CPA Elizabeth Nanyama, also saw the election of leaders for the Kigezi Sub-region. At the gathering held in Kabale Municipality’s Kirigime Guest House, Ms. Aine Sarah Kamara, Rukungiri District’s Internal Auditor, emerged as the Chairperson, with Mr. Jessy Nkurikiyimana as her Deputy. Additionally, Mr. Benon Rutangana took up the role of Treasurer, Mr. Junior Twebaze as Secretary, Mr. Everest Tumwekwase as Publicity Secretary, and Ms. Justine Tushemereirwe as Committee Advisor. The committee also includes Mr. Geofrey Byarugaba and Mr. Cornelius Byoruganda.

ICPAU’s Ms. Elizabeth Nanyama elaborated on the objectives of such networks, emphasizing their role in enhancing professionalism, promoting the CPA course among recent graduates, facilitating access to technical services like consultancy and auditing, and assisting communities with tax computations.

Following her election, Ms. Sarah Aine Kamara outlined her plans for the CPA Kigezi Region Network. These encompass efforts to boost membership, provide refresher training for CPAs, advocate for the profession among younger generations, and establish a regional study center in Kigezi to alleviate logistical challenges faced by students who currently have to travel to Mbarara City for classes.
