Fr. Gaetano Wants Reopening of Places of Worship to Wait

The Kigezi interreligious council chairperson Fr Gaetano Banyenda who also  doubles at Kitanga parish priest has opposed the Catholic and Anglican leaders who joined their Muslim counterparts in appealing to government to open places of worship.

municipality on Monday, Batanyenda revealed that while the religious leaders are calling for the opening of the places of worship, it is not realistic since more cases of COVID-19 are being recorded and there is need to keep observing social distancing.

He argued that church leaders to instead continued utilizing media to reach out to their believers as efforts end the pandemic are stepped up.

Mufti Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, while celebrating Idd-ul-Fitr on May 24, called for the opening of places of worship, saying the world needs prayers to heal during this difficult time of the coronavirus pandemic.

His Anglican counterpart, Archbishop Samuel Kaziimba said as church

leaders, they are organized and ready to abide by the standard operating procedures set up by the Ministry of Health and PresidentMuseveni to contain the spread of the corona virus.

Church services and other religious gatherings in Uganda  were banned in March after the outbreak of COVID-19.
