The Bushenyi National Resistance Movement (NRM) district chairperson, Hassan Bassajjabalaba has rubbished allegations that he is fueling violence by bribing voters and paying goons to attack the politicians he doesn’t support.

This follows the party electoral commission boss Dr Tanga Odoi’s warning to disqualify whoever engages in conflicts and other uprisings before he petitioned the national party chairman, President Museveni to intervene in Hassan Basajjabala’s saga.

The accused has also accused some of the aspiring party candidates who are tarnishing his name after failing to fulfill all the credentials to represent the district.

On issues related with vote bribery, Mr. Bassajjabalaba confirmed that he was fulfilling the 2016 pledge he promised to sub county NRM party chairpersons after massively voting president Museveni into power.

Bushenyi has about 17 sub counties and the battle is between the incumbent woman Member of Parliament Karoro Okurut supported by Basajjabalaba battling the wife of National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) managing director Dr. Eng. Silver Mugisha, Annet Katusiime Mugisha.

A cross-section of stakeholders including Apollo Kakonge, the Executive Director Western Ankole Civil Society Forum (WACSOF) recently confirmed that situation in Bushenyi warrants for immediate action against the NRM district chairperson otherwise bloodshed will increase because at least two people are already hospitalized after being attacked by Basajjabalaba’s goons.
