Atleast ten civilians have been killed in the Congolese territory of Beni in North Kivu province by suspected Allied Democratic Forces.
The rebels reportedly targeted villagers in the Rwenzori sector on Monday and Tuesday also looting food and merchandise.
According to Wilson Batholeni, the president of the civil societies in the Ruwenzori sector, two houses and military positions were set on fire when the rebels attacked Rwenzori at around 7:00 p.m.
The rebels targeted the villages of Libokora and Kalembo, in Malambo.
Batholeni says that the rebels left the area after the intervention of the DRC Armed Forces (FARDC), and MONUSCO peacekeepers.
He further revealed that over 50 people are missing and are believed to have been abducted by the rebels.
