The Outspoken Priest of Kitanga Parish in Kabale Diocesse Rev. Fr. Gaetano has said that Former Minister of Security Elly Tumwine was forcibly used by God to remind President Yoweri Museveni about retirement.
While handing over office to the New Security Minister Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi on Wednesday this week Gen. Tumwine revealed that after assuming his new role as Senior Presidential adviser on security, he was planning to help Museveni to prepare for a “Peaceful transition of power.”
Tumwine said Museveni would only archieve a long term stability of Uganda if he prepares for the peaceful transition of power. The former bush war fighter and UPDF member of parliament said he would keep advising the president in order to save him from turning into “Ngambe Nyenka, ” literally translated as “dictator”.
“It should be our duty to save him from the disease of being Ngambe Nyenka . He has served this country with deligence and therefore deserves an honorable retirement,” said Tumwine.
Tumwine’s statements have since attracted mixed reactionjs from the Public with many predicting that Museveni could retariate against the 67 year old general for daring him to prepare for the end of his rule as the longest serving President of Uganda since independence.
Fr. Gaetano equated Tumwine to the Biblical Prophet Jonah and the Apostle Paul who were forcibly used by God . Fr. Gaetano said God could have seen Gen. Tumwiine as a perfect choice to speak to Museveni about Uganda without him.
On the issue of helping Museveni to avoid becoming a dictator, Fr. Gaetano said it was too late since Museveni was already one. He predicted that Tumwiine would be excommunicated soon or later for daring Museveni.
Fr. Gaetano however challenged Every Ugandan to take up the responsibility of supplementing Tumwine’s call for a peaceful transtion of power.
Gen. Tumwiine is one of the surviving top 100 National Resistance Army Fighters who brought 41 year old Museveni to power in 1986. A number of these fighters commonly known as “Bush war Heroes” died during or after the struggle, while others like Tumwine are serving in the NRM government under Museeveni who is now 76 yeras old.
It should aslo be remebered that a section of top leaders in Musveni’s government have tried to challenge his “overstaying in power, ” but they end up parting ways with him. These include his former personal doctor Rt. Col. Kiiza Besigye, Former Internal Affairs Minister Eliya Kategaya, Former Prime Minister John Patrick Amama Mbabazi among others.
After his current term in office, Museveni will have ruled Uganda for 40 years.
