Kabale vice-chairperson calls for consideration of Batwa for food relief

Kabale  district  vice chairperson Miriam Akankwasa Tugume has appealed to the district task force to offer food relief to the Batwa community in Butanda sub county, Kabale district who were affected by the lock down.

Speaking to our reporter in her office, Miriam who also doubles as the district councilor representing Butanda and Kahungye sub-counties said the Batwa in Nyamiryango parish of Butanda Sub County are struggling to make ends meet.

She said that the Batwa used to go into Echuya forest in Rubanda district searching for fruits but the inter district travel ban has left them stuck.  

Darius Nandinda, the Resident District commission –Kabale who also doubles as the chairman of the district task force said the Batwa were not among the people whose work was affected by this lockdown and so were not listed among the beneficiaries of Covid-19 relief support from the government.

He says that there are no resources to give them special consideration.
