Happy Herbert, the chairperson of the Ibanda district, has urged residents to embrace economic diversification if higher household incomes are to be realized.

On Friday, Happy made this call while speaking to district and technical leaders, as well as selected farmers, during a study tour at Bigira Farm in Nyabuhikye, Ibanda district.

The district chairman stated that in order to break the cycle of poverty, the people of Ibanda must change and shift their mindset from focusing on one activity to engaging in a variety of businesses in order to increase household income.

He also encouraged farmers in the district to work closely with the district extension workers to get good advice on better farming practices.

Kweyamba Ruhemba, the Ibanda Chief Administrative Officer, rallied farmers in the district to welcome the upcoming Parish Development Model Program and ensure that it benefits the intended beneficiaries.

Peter Abaho, the district Agricultural Officer, called on the people to adopt the growing of coffee, noting that it is one of the few crops that fetches a lot of money at once.

The tour was organized under the theme “farming as a business.”

David Bigira, the proprietor of Bigira Farm, is a prominent farmer and also the District Councilor representing Old Persons.
