Rukiga District Leaders have joined forces with locals to build a bridge connecting two parishes to the Muhanga-Kisizi Road in Bukinda Sub County.

The constructed bridge connects Kyerero and Kandogo parishes and has always been used by locals who go to Muhanga town council for shopping and other services.

Residents have recently been struggling to cross the bridge since it was dilapidated andwould become unusable, especially during the rainy season as the water would overflow the area.

Locals had no choice but to abandon the bridge because it was too risky to use.

Mucunguzi Josephat, Kyampire Monica, and Muzanira Wilber, all residents of Kandogo Parish, said that school children and Christians going to Kandago Church in Uganda have been failing to cross the ruined bridge and that it is hard to first remove shoes before crossing.

Monica added that a few months back, she fell down on the motorcycle while at the same bridge and experienced a miscarriage.

The chairperson of LC2 Kandago Parish, Mr. Binamaryo Jane, said the situation has been beyond human recognition for almost 20 years.

He added that they have witnessed tremendous developments from the Rukiga District woman Mp and the chairperson LCV, which he had never seen before.

The chairperson of LCV Rukiga District, Mr. Mbabazi Kakwerere Robert, called upon the residents to always intervene and develop community roads rather than first waiting for the situation to escalate while waiting for the government’s support.

He promised the community to work on their bridge in the next financial year. They praised the female MP for her tireless efforts to advance the district’s development.

Caroline Kamusiime called upon the leaders to always help the people when they are still alive.

She added that she decided to intervene to save the people before drowning in the swamp.

Kamusiime said that she was waiting for the financial year at the district to work on the bridge, but two weeks back, while commissioning boreholes in the parish, she received an alarming call about the bridge.

She added that she decided to intervene to save the people before drowning in the swamp.
