Kahondo Health Center III in Kabale District’s Maziba Sub-county is grappling with inadequate following its elevation from a health center II.

According to the facility’s in charge,  Keneth Tukamushaba,  the inadequate staff coupled with a habit of absenteeism of staff have greatly affected service delivery.

Tukamushaba said that a health center III should have a total of 19 full-time staff members, though the facility has only 12 staff members who cannot effectively serve the community.

Tukamushaba also expressed concern about a lack of power at the facility and staff house which prompts the health workers to look for accommodation away from the facility thus reporting late for work or being absent.

Paddy Mwesigye the assistant health officer for Kabale district revealed that  Kahondo Health Centre III has been upgraded from Health Centre II, and they are waiting for the official commissioning of the new building before more staff is assigned to the area.

He further revealed that the district is already in the process of recruiting more staff to ensure that facilities such as Kahondo are served better.

He adds that the facility currently attends to between 70-80 patients daily this overwhelming for the current staff.
