Locals have been urged to prioritize healthy living if development is to be realized.

Speaking to our reporter, the executive director of Kigezi Orphans and Vulnerable children living with HIV –KADOLHA Amos Tugumisirize1 revealed that the biggest challenge in the communities has been ill-health which compromises development.

Tugumisirize revealed that the locals and families that have been hit hard by sickness often find it hard to meet the costs of medication in addition to losing several productive hours that would have been spent on producing food for their homes and for sale.

He further revealed that the organization last month supported vulnerable communities in Rubanda district to ensure that they improve their income through rearing sheep and beekeeping.

Karengyere-Rwamahano Beekeepers group was last month given 10 beehives while Ndego Batwa-Bakiga beekeepers group also received 10 beehives.

A total of 10 sheep were also given out to the Batwa communities in a bid to boost their income and generate manure for production.

Tugumisirize says that the Batwa communities continue to live in abject poverty since the government has kept deaf to their plight and refused to have them compensated despite evicting them from Bwindi and Echuya forests which were their traditional homes.
