NITA-launches greened data transmission site in Kabale

The National Information Technology Authority Uganda (NITA-U) has launched the greened data transmission in Kabale district in a move to extend internet connectivity to the Kigezi sub region.

The National Information Technology Authority-Uganda (NITA-U) is an autonomous statutory body established under the NITA-U Act 2009, to coordinate and regulate Information Technology services in Uganda.

NITA-U is under the general supervision of the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance.

Dr. Nabila Habika, the NITA-U board chairperson while speaking during the launch at white horse inn Kabale noted that #RCIP has extended this Infrastructure to over 39 ministries, Departments and agencies, Hospitals, schools within Kigezi sub region and this has greatly improved service delivery.

She revealed that Transmission Sites amplify broadband signal from one point to another and enable broadband access to entities within the District or region. It’s one of the 3 Solar Powered sites that transmit quality fast & reliable internet broadband in Kigezi sub region.

A total of 725 additional MDAs/DLG sites and target user groups have been connected to the national backbone infrastructure (NBI) installation of additional 300 Wi-Fi sites across major cities and towns across the country and greening of 25 NBI transmission sites have been completed with all sites connected to solar energy.

Johns Murangira, the Kabale University ICT Director one of the beneficiaries   that E- Learning couldn’t have been a success if it wasn’t Nita U is one of the services that eased E-learning during covid-19 lockdown where there were no physical classes.  Its one the 3 Solar Powered sites that transmit quality fast & reliable internet broadband in Kigezi Sub-Region

However he said NITA U needs to think about reducing the cost of the internet which is still a bit high, each 1 mega byte costing $70 to enable quick and easy services.

The Kabale district Chairperson, Nelson Nshangabashaija speaking as the guest of honor revealed thatLeadership actively engaged in IT transformational projects like theseStrong Leadership is key in creating sustainable leadership.

The team first visited Katuna Border one post where they have served internet connection later they launched transmission site at Kabale central police station
