Scores injured in Rubanda accident

Police in Rubanda registered a single serious accident that involved an ambulance and a number of injured passengers.

Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate says that the accident occurred on the 4th of March 2023 at around 15:50 hrs at Ntaraga village/parish, Ikumba sub-county, along Kagunga-Kabale marrum road in Rubanda district.

Maate says that the accident occurred when motor vehicle registration number UAL 194 J Toyota Land Cruiser white in color ambulance attached to Kiizi Health Center III lost control and overturned while rushing an expectant woman to Kabale referral hospital.
 
Those injured include Busingye Brandina, 25 years old, a midwife and resident of Nyarugaragara village, Nyamabare parish, and Ikumba sub-county in Rubanda district,Byomugabe Wilson, 45, the driver and resident of Ntaraga village, Ntaraga parish, and Lkumba subcounty in Rubanda district,Nyinaguhigwa Brandina, resident of Kashasha village, Kasasha parish, and Lkumba s/cty in Rubanda district,Nuwamanya Anociate, f/j of around 2 years, daughter to Nyinaguhigwa,Ntegyerezi Veneranda, 52 yrs, resident of  Kashasha village, Kashasha parish, Ikumba s/cty in Rubanda district.

It’s alleged that the above motor vehicle was heading to Kabale, rushing an expectant pregnant patient who had been referred to Kabale referral hospital from Kiizi HC111, but due to overspeeding the driver lost control, went off the road, overturned several times, and ended up in the valley about 25 mtrs from the road.

The five people who were on board all survived with injuries.
