Kabale Youth chairperson calls for establishment of an ICT hub.

During international Youth Day celebrations in Kabale, Kabale District Youth Chairperson Tadeo Taremwa asked President Museveni for an ICT hub as a move to strengthen the local technological base and promote skills among the youth.

The celebrations ran under the theme ’Accelerating recovery from COVID-19 and full implementation of the 2030 Agenda: The role of the youth’.

Held annually, the International Youth Day is meant to draw attention to cultural and legal issues surrounding youth.

In a function that was held on Friday at Kigezi High School’s primary lower playgrounds in Kabale district, where the President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, presided, Mr. Taremwa spoke and emphasised the need for an ICT hub in Kabale district to curb the problem of unemployment among the youth.

Taremwa noted that the ICT innovation hub Provide workspaces, mentorship, education, and access to funders for startups. Provide adequate resources, including the allocation of required personnel, for the success of any pilot programmes, proofs of concept, and subsequent projects.

He added that the innovation hub will support obtaining the intellectual property rights to the innovations.

On her part, the Minister for Gender, Labour, and Social Development, Betty Among, noted that her ministry will collaborate with that of Education under BTVET (business, technical, and vocational education and training) as well as the Presidential Industrial Hubs to skill the youth and ensure that they are employed.

Speaking as the Chief Guest, President Museveni said that he was impressed with a group of innovators from Mbarara University led by Richard Kwagala who were involved in electronic innovations and came up with a gadget that monitors the blood clot in the body.

He pledged government funding to scientific innovators, saying it is the role of the government to provide them with enough money without delay.

The government leaders, Members of Parliament, Ministers, and youth leaders, among others, graced the occasion.
